Regional Recognition for Local Paddler

 

Local paddler Wendy Morris’s work in the world of kayaking has been recognised by the sports National Governing Body Canoe England. Wendy was nominated and then selected by the North East Region as the winner of the Competition Coach Award 2010-2011.

Wendy is a member of Cleveland Canoe Club and has been paddling for 14 years, she competes in the woman’s UK Premier Slalom league where she pitches her skills against the best female paddlers in the country.

 

Wendy combines her passion for the sport along with her professional life, as she is a Duty Manager at the recently redeveloped Tees Barrage International White Water Centre has been kayaking since the age of 14 and coaching since the age of 16.

 

She regularly coaches paddlers at Cleveland Canoe Club from the age of 6+ and is now coaching British Para Canoeing champion Lucy Gardener who has made great strides under Wendy’s guidance this season.

 

Modest Wendy said “I am delighted to receive this award and I have now been short listed for a national coaching award. I did not know I had been nominated so to win was a fantastic surprise.”

Wendy is busy at the barrage and is training hard for the Premier league slalom race to be held at the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre in October.
