Ready Steady Cook

The athletes and parents of Tees Active Sports Academy were treated to a culinary master class from local celebrity chef Mark Earnden.
A correct diet is essential to compete at the highest level and the session has been organised by the Academy to give a practical and interactive lesson on how to prepare and cook a nutritional and tasty dish. The athletes will not only try their hand at cooking but they will also be encouraged to taste different foods and use an assortment of spices to flavour their food.
Academy athlete Heidi Kilty assisted Mark as he put together the perfect salad, creamy beef pasta with vegetables and roasted vegetable cous cous.
Academy Manager Allan McDermott said, “Mark makes the cooking experience fun and interesting. It is vitally important that the academy athletes have a good range of cooking skills. Mark has also introduced some ingredients that our athletes may not have experienced before and this is an ideal opportunity for them to sample them. The other great thing about these events is that it gives the athletes a chance to relax and share their experiences with athletes from different sports.”

The Academy athletes were accompanied by their parents, so mums and dads will also be able to buy the right ingredients to produce a variety of nutritious dishes. Kevin Kilty father of Academy athletes Heidi and Richard said, “Richard and Heidi learnt how to put their nutritional knowledge into a pan and create a tasty meal that looks great. Richard will be getting some recipes from Mark to take to Lanzorote to cook for his coach and training group. Mark’s session was better than anything that I have seen from Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay.”
