Premier Race for Premier Watersports Venue

Tees Barrage International White Water Centre (TBIWWC) l hosted a prestigious UK Slalom event last weekend. With over 250 of the top paddlers from Great Britain flooding in to tackle Race Eight of the UK Premiership Ranking Series.

 

The blue riband event the K1 was won by Olympic silver medallist Campbell Walsh and the female K1 was won by World and European Champion Laura Blakeman.

The paddlers were able to test firsthand the fantastic facility which is the result of a £4.6 million recent investment into TBIWWC which now includes a new Rapid Block system and Lazy Boy conveyer belt.

Steve Chaytor, Managing Director of Tees Active (Operator of TBIWWC) said “This test event has been the first time paddlers have been able to negotiate the course in competition conditions. The new features make it one of the very best in the world and the event produced some stunning action.”

 

The success of the event was the result of an incredible amount of hard work put in by members of Tees Tigers Canoe Club and the British Canoe Union Slalom committee.

 

Simon White, Tees Active’s Head of Adventurous Activities said “The weekend has been a tremendous success and it has been great to see the course tested by the best paddlers in the country. The event gave everybody the opportunity to visit our on site shop North Shore Water sports and take in the delights of the river from the superb vantage point of the River View Café which is based at the TIBIWWC.”
