Paddler Powers to Golden Weekend

Lucy Gardener had a golden weekend at the British Para Canoeing Championships staged at the National Water sports Centre at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham.

Lucy who is a member of Tees Active Sports Academy and trains at the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre returned to Stockton with 2 individual gold medals and 3 gold’s as one half of the pairs.

Lucy’s victories come after a hard winter and a full season of training overseen by her new coach Wendy Morris who is one of the Duty Managers at the Barrage and a Premier league slalom kayaker herself.

Lucy said after her victories “I am delighted to have come away from the nationals with 5 gold’s, it was definitely worth all those hours on the River Tees with Wendy and all the sessions in the Activ8 gym at Splash and Thornaby Pavilion under the supervision of Tees Active staff.”

Wendy added “Lucy is much stronger and as a result is faster on the water, but after a short break Lucy will be back on the water and in the gym to start her new programme which will hopefully take her to the next level.”

Lucy is looking forward to the national trials next April where she will be attempting to qualify for the World Championships which are to be held in Poznan ,Poland next May.
