No Pain No Gain

18 members of Tees Active Sports Academy attended a practical workshop on recovery techniques delivered by Jason Hynd of Teesside Sports Injury Centre. Physio demonstrating self massage equipment

The session involved athletes learning techniques on self massage and also how to utilise foam rollers to relieve muscular tension. Jason who practices from a clinic based at Billingham Forum and is a lecturer at Teesside University Said” Many of the Tees Active Academy athletes are currently experiencing very demanding training loads during a period of growth. This can lead to excessive muscle tension and potential injury. My aims were to provide a practical workshop allowing athletes to potentially increase their sporting performance whilst reducing the risk of muscle imbalance and injury. The session involved foam roller exercises and self massage. It was interesting to observe the pain being experienced by athletes whose sport involved specific muscle groups”

Tees Active Sports Academy Manager, Allan McDermott said” The feedback from the Academy members who attended Jason’s session has been extremely positive. Having participated myself I can assure you that the foam roller session can be quite painful but will benefit our members, particularly when they are involved in extremely demanding training and competitive schedules. I am pleased to say  we are busy arranging another date for a similar session as the other members of the Academy who missed this session are keen to learn the techniques.”
