Netball Ladies Court Pavilion

STOCKTON’S Netball Satellite Squad has begun this season’s training schedule at Thornaby Pavilion, with 20 girls from the local area enrolled.
Aged 12 to 14 years old, the girls were put forward by their respective schools and netball clubs. 42 girls went for trials on 30th September this year with 20 selected, the deciding factor being ability shown on the day.
Part of Tees Valley Active Sport Netball, the training squad develops the girl’s netball skills and fitness. It’s catchment area covers Stockton, Billingham, Yarm and Thornaby areas, with other satellite squads in Grangetown and Darlington catering for the remainder of the Tees Valley area.
Between now and early April there are seven training sessions planned at Thornaby Pavilion, each covering two hours. Head Coach Lorraine Ryan will concentrate on ball skills, fitness, diet and tactics during these sessions, with a squad logbook enabling each girl to record her performance requirements and eating habits.
Netball Development Officer for Tees Valley, Di Covell said: “The training squad is intended to attract more girls to the sport and offer the opportunity to enjoy playing netball with others.”
Many of the girls in the training squad also represent clubs and schools competitively and will be keen to show their skills in January’s Regional Junior tournament, a pre-cursor to the National Finals in March 2006.
Manager of Thornaby Pavilion, Dave Seller said: “Netball is experiencing a resurgence and Tees Active boasts several superb courts on which to play.
“Between Tees Active’s seven venues there is a diverse range of sports on offer to anyone of any ability and the netball training squad is a good opportunity for youngsters to develop many different skills.”
