Michael Marches up the Rankings

A young squash player has risen to 8th position in the national Under 13 rankings and has added to his growing reputation by winning the York Open.

12 year old Michael Andrews who is a member of Norton and Stockton squash club and Tees Active Sports Academy was triumphant at the York Italic under 13 championships held at the Clifton Squash Club in York.

The Red House school pupil beat Joseph Twigge of York in the semi final 3-0 before playing William Hendon from Norwich.

Michael had to dig deep in the final as he was trailing 2-1 but showed his true fighting spirit to rally and win the last two games to win 3-2.

Michael has a busy couple of months ahead of him as he is scheduled to play at the England Squash North East Regional Championships, The Durham and Cleveland County Championships and the British Junior Championships.

Michael will be receiving urgent treatment on a heel injury from Tees Active Sports Academy’s sport therapist Alex Mirley next week but is hoping to be fit to so he is able to compete over the next few months and hopefully climb up the national rankings.
