Champions League football was played on Teesside this week. But forget famous stadiums such as Barcelona’s Nou Camp and San Siro in Milan, this all-action tournament was held at Thornaby Pavilion. The atmosphere was electric as over 200, 7 to 9 year olds represented the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in a tense day long competition.

The teams were made up of schools from Stockton; Thornaby and Billingham. The teams had to battle through the group stages and then negotiate the nerve wracking knock out phase. With over 20 teams and 7 different schools competing, the final resulted in local rivals Inter Milan ( Harewood Primary School) playing against PSV Eindhoven (St Patrick’s RC) in a excellent final full of good football Inter Milan (Harewood Primary School) ran out 4-0 winners.

Paul Bambrough, Tees Actives Young Persons Lifestyle Manager said “The event has been a fantastic success and everybody has enjoyed a great day of football. All the children present have created a fantastic atmosphere and we are already planning for next year’s event. If any schools in the Stockton area are interested in competing in next years competition please contact me or one of the Active Start Team."
