Marcus Targets 2014

A young Teesside wrestler has had his potential recognised as British Wrestling have selected him to join an elite group of wrestlers who will attend a series of intensive training camps which are specifically aiming to produce wrestlers who will fight and hopefully gain podium places at  the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Marcus Sudron who is a member of Stockton Wrestling Club and Tees Active Sports Academy will be attending his first training session with this elite squad on Sunday as he travels to British Wrestling’s headquarters in Manchester. He will be  put through his paces by the countries top coaches whilst training alongside the most talented wrestlers in the country.

18 year old Marcus is an apprentice plumber at Elite Building Services and is the current British and English wrestling champion at the 84kg weight category and is looking forward to working hard to impress selectors and ultimately secure selection to the games.

A delighted Marcus said “This is a fantastic honour and alongside the intensive training camps, the squad will be travelling abroad to compete in international competitions against some of the top wrestlers in the world. I know it will be tough to gain final selection to the games but I will be giving 110% over the next 2 years to win my place.” 

Marcus is coached by his father Mick who is head coach at the Stockton Wrestling Club which trains at Billingham Forum on Tuesday and Sunday evenings. Mick said “This is a tremendous honour and opportunity for Marcus and I know he will be giving his all to win final selection to the games. He has been wrestling since he was a youngster; this is a tremendous boost for the club, which is always looking for new members.”
