Watersports are definitely booming at Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre as over 600 children have sampled day long activities of kayaking and sailing throughout the school summer holidays

The children from Stockton Schools were able to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity thanks to funding from Stockton’s Extended schools programme and NHS Stockton-on-Tees initiative  Sporting Start”.

The activities proved popular to children of all ages and Rachel aged 15 from St Michael’s summed up the feelings of all the participants when she said “The team leaders were fantastic they treated everyone equal and they can take a laugh. Thank you all so much for a great day”

Gary Rooke Watersports Coach at Castlegate Quay said “Many of the children who have been on the water this summer have now signed up for our Saturday sailing and kayaking club which runs throughout the year. The interest in kayaking and sailing has never been greater which is fantastic for the development of the two sports”

Gary added “The Saturday club will allow participants to work towards their RYA sailing certificate or their British Canoe Union 1 star certificate. Although the main emphasis is on fun and enjoyment for all those taking part.”
