Kids Get to Grips

 

Thornaby Pavilion Judo Club is celebrating after impressing at the Eston Judo Mini Mons Open held at Eston Sports Centre. The club coached by Judo legend Joe Glynn returned home with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

 

Charlie Kett won gold in the under 34kg category, Jacob Papple won silver in the under 27 kg, Liam Doody returned with silver in the under 50kg, Ben Eastwood won bronze in the under 27kg and Daniel Greenwood  picked up a bronze medal in the under 42kg,

 

A delighted coach, Joe Glynn said “All the judo players from the Thornaby Pavilion Club were a credit to themselves and the club. All our players are back training and cannot wait till our next competition”

 

One of the parents who attended the tournament added “It was a fantastic day for the club and the children have worked hard all year round, without doubt we have the best coach in the country here at Thornaby Pavilion.”

 

The club members train twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays 6.30-7.30pm at the Pavilion with a senior class available 7.30pm – 8.30pm on the same evenings.

 

Joe, who has been coaching for over 50 years added. “Judo is a fantastic sport for all ages; it is a great way to keep fit and teaches all participants self discipline and respect for others. We have the capacity to take on all newcomers and they will be greeted by a friendly and welcoming atmosphere
