Kids Conquer Course
Brilliant weather, beautiful setting and a fantastic turnout as over 500 people attended the Sporting Start Family Orienteering day at Ropner Park during the school holidays.
That was the verdict after over 500 people negotiated a course mapped out around Ropner Park by Cleveland Orienteering Klub.
The Family Orienteering Day was part of Tees Actives Sporting Start programme which has been commissioned by NHS Stockton on Tees as part of their drive to increase physical activity levels amongst children within the borough.
Youngsters as young as three completed a special orienteering course following a red string which led children and their families to checkpoints around a specially designed course.
The more ambitious participants navigated a course around the beautiful setting of Ropner Park with families continuing the fun by having picnics and utilising the great play facilities available in the park.
Paul Bambrough, Tees Actives Young Persons Active Health Manager said “The number of families who have participated today has been fantastic. The feedback we have received has been extremely positive and I would like to thank Mike Hardy and his team of volunteers from Cleveland Orienteering Klub who have organised the day and dealt so efficiently with all those people taking part.
Paul added,” The success of today’s event means we will definitely planning similar events for the summer Sporting Start programme”
