J-Lo in Carnival mood

 

Tees Active Sports Academy and Borough of Stockton Swimming Scheme Star Jemma Lowe has excelled at the 1st FINA World Youth Championship in Brazil.Jemma Butterfly

The 16-year-old Hartlepool youngster was part of a British squad of seven swimmers who have been earmarked as some of the brightest prospects for the future of the sport.

Jemma took the silver in the girls 200m Butterfly in a time of 2:13.52 behind Cartneli Kalisz of the US in 2:12.34 but ahead of Nina Dittrich of Austria in 2:13.92. Jemma gained a bronze to her collection after a close finish saw her touched out into third place in the 100m Butterfly. Jemma’s week in Rio was completed as she was part of the GB 100m medley team that won bronze.

The championships took place in the shadow of the world renowned Maracana football stadium at the open air Julio de Lamarre Swimming Centre in Rio de Janeiro.

The British team, under the guidance of Swansea based head coach Bill Pilczuk had prepared for 10 days before the championships in a training camp in Fort Lauderdale in the US.

The globetrotting youngster will be returning to her Hartlepool home to take a well-earned rest after an exceptionally busy year.
