Ice Maidens

Young skaters from Billingham Ice Skating Club have been proving that Billingham has a conveyor belt of talent being developed at Billingham Forum Ice arena.
Over the past several months Billingham skaters have consistently being placed at figure skating competitions in rinks all over the country. As recently as last Sunday Elena Duncan aged 11 won the beginner’s competition at the Hull Open, this added to the title she took at the Sheffield Open and a second place in the Bradford Open.
Twelve year old Charlotte Watson from Wolviston was competing in the Ladies level 5 competition picked up a bronze at the Hull competition, this followed a second place at Telford and a third place at the Sheffield Open. Fourteen year old Sophie Birch has been competing in ladies level six competition and came a creditable second at the Telford Open competition.
All the girls are coached by resident Ice Skating professional Christine Eskilsden, who said “The girls have been training really hard and their results against stiff opposition show that their hard work is paying off”
Not letting the men down Tees Active Sports Academy member Michael Duffield, coached by resident ice skating professional Alison Laws, took first place in the Mens Level 8 competition in Hull and is training hard for his next competition later this month when he will compete in his first IJS competition at Lee Valley ice rink where if he skates well could possibly lead to qualification for the British Novice Championships early in 2008
