Ice Cool Irmina in Swindon Success
A German teenager has adopted Teesside as her temporary home and has triumphed at the Swindon Figure Skating Opens. 18 year old Irmina Reithmair a member of Tees Active Sports Academy and a pupil at Teesside High School won in the Ladies level 9 competition in Swindon bringing the Mira Sports Cup to Ingleby Barwick.
Irmina moved to England 12 months ago to study for her A levels and improve her English. Irmina was the 2005 Bavarian Junior Figure Skating Champion and she was brought up in Passau which is located in the Bavarian forest and had to travel one and half hours to train at the Regensburg rink.
Irmina now finds training at Billingham Forum Ice Arena far more convenient and she is settling in to living in England and passed her driving test this summer in Teesside. She will be giving her father, who is making a flying visit in November some useful tips on driving on the left hand side of the road.
This talented teenager is training approximately 10 hours per week on the ice and this is supplemented with gym work and the weekly core stability sessions made available to Academy athletes. This is while studying extremely hard for her A levels in her second language!!!!!!!
Irmina is also hoping to continue her education in England and is hoping to study Sport and Exercise Science at either Loughborough or Bath University.
Irmina said “It was great to win in Swindon and this follows my 3rd place in Bradford. This is a busy time for me with my skating and study commitments .Although now I have my driving license I do not have to rely on my godmother Marianna to transport me to school and the rink. I am looking forward to my father arriving in November and I will be returning to Bavaria for the Christmas holidays.”
