Historic Henley

Jo and Beth (jo and beth.jpg)Tees Rowing Club is celebrating after two of their rowers reached the final of the junior women’s double at the prestigious Women’s Henley Regatta.

Beth Bryan and Jo Wratten who are coached by James Harris, are members of British Rowing World Class Start Programme and Tees Active Sports Academy were delighted to be the first crew from Tees RC to make a final at Henley.

On their way to the final Jo and Beth overcame a crew from California and in the semi final they cruised to victory against a crew made up of rowers from the Runcorn and Warrington Clubs.

In the final the girls met stiff opposition as they met a crew made up of 2 gold medallists from the National Schools Regatta. In a competitive race the girls succumbed to their rivals   who won in a time just 1 second outside the course record.

18 year old Jo said “The feeling of being in a Henley final is amazing. We had trained hard for the regatta and our race plan of going out hard from the start of the race paid dividends for us but unfortunately it was not quite good enough in the final,”
