It was definitely a case of girl power at Thornaby Pavilion this week as 14 teams from Stockton Primary schools competed for the Stockton Teaching PCT World Cup.

The 5-a-side tournament saw schools adopt the identity of 14 countries that varied from Cameroon to Canada. The girls also took part in a Keepy Up competition as Jade Butler from Mill Lane and Chloe Ferbur from Harewood
were declared Keepy Up queens with a total 11 keepy ups a piece.

The competition was sponsored by Stockton Teaching PCT and is part of the PCTs drive to increase physical activity amongst children in the borough. The competition was organised by Tees Actives Young Persons Active Health team and this year they were assisted by Year 10 students from St Michaels BTEC Sport group. These students assisted in officiating and the smooth administration of the event.

The competition involved teams being split into 2 groups of seven with the top 4 teams from each group qualifying for the knockout phase. The competition was played in an extremely sporting manner and the knockout phase  was keenly contested and extremely close with the semi final between France (Bader Primary) and Czech Republic(Mill Lane) only being decided after a tense penalty shoot out contest.

The final Between France (Bader Primary) and Cameroon (Harewood Primary)
was fiercely contested with France winning 3-0 as their incredible defence shut out the opposition. Shannon Mclean the Bader keeper not conceding a single goal during the competition.

Competition organiser Paul Bambrough is already planning to have a similar competition next year
