Gray Turns To Gold
Stockton biathlete Rachel Gray is quietly making a name for herself in the world of Biathlon. The 15 year old who attends Egglescliffe School competes for the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme and she finished 2005 by becoming Under 16 national biathlon champion
In the swimming and running event Rachel finished second in the 200m freestyle and fifth in the cross country. Her combined score delivered gold and Rachel who trains 15 hours a week is now focusing on preparing for the national schools biathlon championships which will be staged in Norfolk in February. This event will be a 200m swim following by a 2000m run on the track
The very modest Rachel who always keeps her feet firmly on the ground says “I want to be the best I can be whilst still enjoying my sport."
Graeme Antwhistle who is building an impressive squad of swimmers with the Borough of Stockton Swimming Scheme is busy putting together a training programme for Rachel. This will involve gym work in the Activ8 gyms which Rachel has gained access through the Tees Active Sports Academy.
Graeme says “Rachel has progressed rapidly over the last 18 months, this reflects the hard work she has put in and she is now reaping the rewards she deserves”
