Golden Weekend

Four athletes from the area had a successful weekend competing at the North Eastern Counties Athletic Association Track and Field Championships held at Gateshead International stadium.

Chloe Loredo a member of New Maske Harriers and Tees Active Sports Academy celebrated a first outing on the track this season by bringing home gold in both the under 17 800m and 1500m. Her coach David Lowes said: "We've only been training together for around a month and it's been a matter of righting a few wrongs in her training programme and instilling some new beliefs and giving her some challenges and I'm sure that by the end of the season she will meet all of my goals that I have set out for her."

Sprint duo Rachel Highfield and Christian Carson both members of Gateshead AC and Tees Active Sports Academy continued their impressive start to the season with Rachel picking up a gold in both the women’s under 17, 100m and 200m posting a new personal best of 12.33 in the 100m.Christian headed the field home in the men’s under 20, 200m and taking silver in the 100m whilst achieving a new personal best of 10.93.

A delighted Rachel said “It was great to lower my personal best in the 100m as the conditions were quite difficult with blustery winds. My training has been going well and I am feeling strong. I will be taking a few days off next week but will return to hard training as I aim to peak for the English Schools in 6 weeks time.”

Les Richard s from York AC and Tees Active Sports Academy completed the golden weekend by winning the shot putt  with a throw of 16.68m
