Gala Off to Flying Start

The Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme staged its first Open Gala last weekend at the new 50m pool at the Leeds Aquatic Centre.
The gala was a level 1 meet and attracted over 350 swimmers from 30 swimming clubs around the North of England.
The gala was held over 2 days and the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme utilised the help of other clubs in the area who provided advice, guidance and some officials that ensured that the event was such a huge success.
Gordon Bruce, Publicity Officer for the club said “We have received some very positive feedback about the event from coaches, swimmers, officials and spectators. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
Gordon added” I would like to thank all the other swimming clubs that made the event such a success in particular Middlesbrough Amateur Swimming Club who provided both referees for the meet. Organising an event of this size requires a huge amount of effort from a large number of volunteers and of course I would like to thank all our sponsors whose support made this event possible.”
One of the features of the gala was a “skins event” which is an elimination event which was eventually won in the mens event by Andrew Winspear (BOSSS0 and the female event was won by Aimee Wilmott from Middlesbrough ASC. Both swimmers were delighted to walk off with the £75 top prize.
