Teesside’s most talented trampolinist Jonny Wood competed in a major international competition The Aalsmeer Flowers Cup in the De Bloemhof hall at the weekend. The competition with over 376 competitors from 18 countries was a big test for 15 year old Jonny from Billingham.

Grade 1 trampolinist Jonny was competing against over 48 competitors in his particular event. Although Jonny is fighting his way back to full fitness after suffering a broken shoulder and a back injury, he went into the event hoping to make the final.
Unfortunately, circumstances beyond his control conspired to affect his performance as Jonny explains, “The superior judge signalled me to start my routine and then immediately stopped me as he realised that the competitor on the bed behind me had not finished. When I finally set off, I had completely lost my focus and took off badly. Although my set routine went wrong I still continued and completed my hardest voluntary routine to date.”
Jonny who has been receiving treatment from Tees Active Sports Academy sports therapist Jason Hynd at Billingham Forum has already returned to training at his home club the Apollo in Washington determined to be in top form for his next big competition the Friendship Cup in Prague.
Jonny has learned from this experience and added, “I still feel gutted but I just need to improve my concentration in front of a large audience. I returned to training today and worked really hard and my back feels fine.”
