Tom Keeley on Ice 

 

A young Billingham Ice Hockey player is celebrating after being selected for the England under 14 Ice Hockey Centre of Excellence Camp.

Thirteen year old Tom Keeley a member of the Billingham Bombers Ice Hockey Club and of Tees Active Sports Academy had to compete against 80 of the most talented 13 year old Ice hockey stars in the country to make the final cut of 25 players who were selected to attend the camp. Tom attended a rigorous 3 day trial at Hull Ice Arena as he impressed the coaching and management staff from the England set up.

Tom a pupil from Northfield School is now training hard for the Centre of Excellence camp that is to be held in July.

Part of Tom’s preparation will include intensive 1 on 1 sessions on the ice at Billingham Forum Ice Arena.

The Centre of Excellence Camp to be held at Hull Ice Arena will enable Tom to be coached by some of the top coaches in the country along with some top foreign coaches from Canada and Europe.

A delighted Tom said “I know competition to make the final squad will be fierce but last year I played with the England under 13 team and over the next month I will be increasing my training to increase my fitness levels, this will include spinning. Core stability and 1 on 1 sessions on the ice which have been made available to me through being a member of Tees Active Sports Academy”

Toms father Geoff added “If Tom is selected it will mean travelling with the England team to Canada and Latvian to attend major international junior tournaments that will be help in developing his game”
