Channel Champions

Disabled children (disabled children 1.jpg)The swimmers from a child’s special need class have smashed their own challenge of swimming the entire width of the English Channel.
The disabled children from the special need class meet every Sunday between 10.00am-11.00am at Thornaby Pool and jumped at the chance of tackling the challenge. Tees Active funded the joining fee and agreed for the class to partake as a group instead of individuals.
Every week the group tallied up the distance they had covered and gave a collective figure that the group had swam. On Sunday 1st February the group surpassed the 21-mile mark.  It took an impressive four sessions for the group to swim the 21 miles needed, which equates to 1,344 lengths at Thornaby Pool.Thomas Arrol (Thomas Arrol swims.jpg)
Tees Active would like to congratulate the child’s special need class on their achievements and fundraising efforts towards Butterwick Hospice.
The Channel Challenge is an annual event that challenges people to swim 21 miles, the equivalent of the English Channel in 16 weeks. There is still time to take up the challenge as entrants have until 3rd May to swim the 21 miles required.
