Championships Return to Stockton

 

Marcus and Tom WrestlingStockton Sports Centre is definitely making a name in the world of Olympic Wrestling as a premier venue for staging major championships after being selected to stage the English Junior Championships. This follows on the back of successfully staging the British Junior Championships in July.

The event which is sponsored by Tees Active Ltd will take place on Saturday 29th March between 10am and 5pm, with the finals taking place between 3.30pm and 5pm.The competitions is likely to attract over 150 wrestlers from all over England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The organisers are also expecting some wrestlers to enter from as far a field as Holland and Belgium. There will an added incentive for all the competitors to perform well, as this is a ranking event for the British Development Squad.

Event Organiser, international referee and Stockton wrestling clubs own Coach Dave Sudron said “The tournament has already attracted a huge amount of interest. Stockton Sports Centre and the staff who work here have a reputation for staging well run and friendly events so competitors like fighting here.”

Stockton Sports Centre manager Barbara Rennison said “We are delighted to host this prestigious event, Tees Active are keen to support events like this wherever possible.”

Dave will be heading to Austria this weekend to referee at an international tournament, he will accompanied by his Grandson Marcus Sudron and Tom Denham both members of the Stockton Club and Tees Active Sports Academy who will be facing extremely tough competition as the compete against some of Europe’s top wrestlers.

Dave added “Spectators are welcome to come down and watch this top class event. The spectators can support some of our local talent as Marcus and Tom will be defending their English titles.”
