Catrionas Making Waves

The Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme have been hitting the headlines over the past 12 months with the sporting success of their swimmers and the future is looking bright particularly with talented young swimmers like Catriona Bruce embarking on their international career.
14 year old Catriona who is a member of Tees Active Sports Academy is training extremely hard. As most youngsters her age will be considering how to occupy themselves during the summer holidays she will be making her international debut competing for Great Britain in the European Junior swimming Championships in Belgrade.
This talented and modest teenager who trains up to 22 hours per week has been swimming competitively for 6 years and when asked about her likes and dislikes in swimming Catriona replied “I get a real buzz when I have performed well in the pool and either won a race or achieved a personal best. The biggest downside of swimming is my alarm sounding at 5am as I prepare for early morning training, but once I am out of bed I’m OK”
Catriona added “Training alongside Jess Dickons and Jemma Lowe acts as a huge motivational factor and the camaraderie in the club amongst the swimmers is fantastic”
Catriona will be travelling to Belgrade in late July and will have her mother Shirley present at the Championship to support her. Catriona admits to getting nervous before big races but listens to her favourite tracks on her ipod to help her relax before competing
Catriona is definitely a talent to watch for the future as her ultimate ambition is compete at the London 2012 Olympics.
