BOSSS Makes International Signing
Whilst premiership football clubs scrambled to make last minute acquisitions before the transfer deadline, the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme have made a new international signing with the appointment of Fred Kirby.
Fred who has been appointed as Community Sports Coach a post financed by Tees Active Ltd, the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme and Tees Valley Sport brings over 25 years coaching experience to Teesside. Fred’s impressive track record includes coaching 40 athletes to International selection and winning over 280 National medals at all levels, whilst coaching at the City of Chester, City Of Norwich and the highly successful Portsmouth Northsea club. His international experience includes numerous selections as GB Team Coach and since 2001; he has been instrumental in developing British Swimming’s World Class Swimming Programme.
The Middlesbrough born coaching legend has decided to focus his energy into developing the conveyor belt of talent that BOSSS have been producing over the past few years. Fred will be Head Coach for Age Group Development and will be working closely with BOSSS Head Coach Graeme Antwhistle.
Graeme said “Gaining someone of Fred’s standing has been a tremendous coup for the club. This could not have come at a better time as my commitments increase with our international swimmers and my selection to UK Sports Elite Coach programme. Fred has a fantastic reputation in swimming and his expertise in organising and delivering talent programmes will be a fantastic addition to the quality of the club”.
Fred added, “It is great to be back working full-time on Teesside and I am really excited to be working alongside Graeme. I will be working hard to develop the young swimmers in the club in line with Long Term Athlete Development principles. I will also be looking to identify and develop young swimmers so they achieve their full potential. I am confident that we can build on the clubs success.”
