Billingham figure skater Michael Kerr will not be going overboard with Christmas excesses this year has he will be preparing hard for the British Junior Figure Skating Championships in January.

Micheal Duffield poses on ice (Micheal Duffield in action web.jpg)15 year old Michael a member of Billingham Ice Skating Club and Tees Active Sports Academy has qualified for the British Mens Novice Championships which will be staged at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham after achieving the qualifying scores in recent competitions held at Lee Valley and Sheffield.

Michael also received an early Christmas bonus when he received a letter from the British Olympic Association to say he had been shortlisted for the European Youth Olympic winter Festival that will be held in Poland in February.Michael will discover later this month if he has been selected to compete in this prestigious competition 

Meanwhile Michael is focussed on the British and is hoping to improve on the third place he achieved last year. Michael said “My training is going well and I am feeling confident”

Michaels coach Alison Laws who is also a resident figure skating professional at Billingham Forum added”Michael’s jumping quality has improved from last year and he has been working hard on performing higher scoring moves particularly spins.Over the next few weeks we will be putting the finishing touches to his performance”Michael Duffield in action (michael duffield goes low web 2.jpg)

Michael who trains up to 18 hours per week has had a particularly tiring week as he has also been performing in the Ice Panto Aladdin which has been staged at Billingham Forum Ice Arena.
