Big Toddle for Little Feet

On your marks

Big-hearted children from Thornaby Pavillion play group put their best foot forward when they took part in the Barnardo’s Big Toddle charity event. Organized in aid of the children’s charity, dozens of youngsters were eager to get toddling with strong support from parents and relatives.

The sponsored event was held on 12th June at the Pavillion, Thornaby’s local Active Life Centre. The nursery’s under five’s were hoping to raise lots of cash for children less fortunate than themselves.

The children came up with the exciting theme of fast cats and face paints were used to get the group into character.

The sporting event was broken down into different activities such as sprinting, egg and spoon races, hoop fun, walking backwards and shuffling along the floor, All very challenging for the under fives! Encouraged on by their nursery assistants and friends taking part at the same time, the children completed each activity before being presented with a certificate and medal for all their hard work.

The charity event was a great way to link into the playgroups healthy lifestyle initiative, promoting an active life from an early age and encouraging healthy eating.

A great time was had by both the children and adults with everyone agreeing it was both great exercise for the children as well as an important lesson for them to learn about helping children less fortunate than themselves. Julie Wallis, playgroup supervisor would like to thank all the parents for their generous sponsering of all the children taking part in the event.

Thornaby Pavillion playgroup was established in 1974 and offers a stimulating environment that provides opportunities to enable children to achieve their full potential and work towards the ‘Early Learning Goals’.

The Barnardo’s Big Toddle is the UK’s biggest event for children under five and all proceeds make a huge difference to thousands of less fortunate children across the UK. This annual event is in its 12th year and thanks to the money they raise, the children help Barnardo’s work in 394 local projects.
