The success of Tees Actives Sporting Start Programme in increasing children’s physical activity within Stockton has led the Stockton Teaching TPCT to once again work with Tees Active in introducing the Sporting Re-Start Programme.

The Sporting Re-Start programme has been designed to enable adults in the borough to sample free of charge a variety of activities to discover whether they would wish to take up any of the targeted activities on a more long term basis.

Free sailing taster session at Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre is the latest activity to be made available. The sessions which are held between 5-30-7.30pm every Wednesday in June and July will allow adults to sample the basics of sailing on the Tees without having to provide any of their own equipment. Mickey Early sailing instructor at Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre said “This is an ideal opportunity to anybody who has had none or little experience of sailing to get a feel for the sport at absolutely no expense. If you wish to continue your sailing experience we will sign post customers to our Saturday Club where you can work towards achieving your RYA Sailing Certificate.”

To date Kayaking and adult street dance have been included in the Sporting Re-Start Programme and have both proved to be extremely popular. Paul Bambrough from Tees Active who is organising the programme said “We are already planning further taster sessions which will include Learn to swim courses, indoor bowls, badminton, squash and we are looking into the possibility of starting some ballroom dancing classes”
