A Tale of 2 Bridges
It was definitely not a case of a bridge too far for the swimmers who braved the waters of the River Tees as they competed in the ASA North East Region Two Bridges Open Water Swim.
The event consist of a Mens and Women’s 1000m race, a mixed novices 1000m race and a Mens and Women’s 3000m swim.
A host of local swimmers competed and did not the area down, with Gavin Haggerwood from the
Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme taking pride of place by winning the Mens 1000m swim. In the Women’s event Heather Richardson from Middlesbrough Swimming Club picked up bronze with Sam Herman and Charlotte Plumb hot on her heels in 4th and 5th place.Seventeen year old Catriona Bruce from the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme put in a great performance in the women’s 3000m and picked up silver in a time of 34:42.20.
Ian Gardiner Regional Director ASA North East Region said “This year’s event has been a tremendous success and has highlighted the increased popularity and participation in Open water swimming. The Two Bridges Open Water Swim event has become a permanent fixture in the Open Water calendar now in its fourth year. With the Stockton riverside developments as a backdrop and the professional support from the Cast legate Quay Watersports staff, this location is ideal for such an event. I am positive that the Two Bridges Open Water swim will be even more popular next year.”
