Leisure Assistant – IB Leisure

THE ROLE
Working as part of a team of Lifeguards monitoring the pool area and providing trained assistance to users in difficulty including when necessary, administering first aid. The role also involves providing excellent customer care, setting up activities and other general duties to ensure that the centre is clean and secure.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Leisure Assistant to join our team. LESIURE ASSISTANT APPRENTICE                     

30 hours per week, £192 per week, Splash, Billingham Forum

We have successfully worked with the Lifetime Training Group Limited since 2016 to deliver the apprenticeship scheme. At Tees Active, we have been supporting young people to take their first steps into the exciting world of leisure.

A high number of our apprentices go on to secure employment with us once their apprenticeship has finished, which highlights our commitment to nurturing talented young people at the beginning of their journey.

SUMMARY
At Tees Active you will work towards your Community Activator Coach L2 Apprenticeship Qualification over the course of 12-18 Months.
To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer. If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process. In order to be considered for the role you must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following.

 Jump/dive into deep water
 Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
 Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds
 Surface dive to floor of pool (deepest part)
 Climb out of a swimming pool unaided by ladders/steps and where pool design permits

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To ensure the safe, efficient and enjoyable use of the facilities by customers and assist in the overall development of the Centre. To deal with customer/service enquiries in a professional and positive way. Ensuring that the service maintains a strong customer focus and remains committed to the principles of Customer Service Excellence Standard.

Day to Day-
– To assist in providing day to day assistance in the supervision of the security of the building, and the conduct of the customer.
– To assist in ensuring that the facility is prepared for the customers ensuring the correct timing, including setting up and dismantling equipment or furniture, cleaning facilities and ensuring health and safety standards are maintained at all times.
– To understand and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety at Work procedures, personally and for colleagues, children and other customers. This includes compliance with Health and Safety policy and systems, report any faults/incidents/accidents/damage/hazards and take a pro-active approach to Health and Safety matters in order to protect yourself and others. This includes timely reporting and recording of such matters to the General Management team.
– To assist in the implementation of emergency procedures and operational plans where appropriate, e.g. evacuation and drowning.
– To assist where appropriate in the development of the centre’s programme through events, competitions and new activities.
– To provide advice and assistance to users of the Centre(s) in relation to existing and future activity programmes.
– To work and communicate efficiently and effectively within and between workgroups.
– To undertake general duties as required at the Centre(s).
– To carry out cleaning and litter picking duties within the centre.
– To give all reasonable advice and assistance to customers using the centre(s).
– To assist with patrolling the building to prevent abuse of facilities by customers or unauthorised access.
– Once trained and assessed to be competent, to give trained assistance to users in difficulty and when necessary to give first aid to any injuries sustained by either members of the public or other members of staff.
– Once you obtain the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification you will be required to undertake regular “Pool Lifeguard” training, ensuring that at all times the post holder is able to achieve the minimum standard as approved by the Royal Life Saving Society, and compliance with NOP/EAP.
– To assist in the preparation for special events and galas, ensuring that all equipment is safe for its intended use.

GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade C/4) Essential

Activity Instructor Apprenticeship

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Instructors to join our team to help deliver watersports sessions along with supporting the Air Trail team and the wider centre operations. The role will predominantly include delivery of kayaking, open canoeing, raft building, Stand up Paddle boarding and Air Trail sessions to a wide variety of customers along with helping with the smooth day-to- day operation of the venue.

We looking to recruit to this new Apprentice role and pathway in our unique site which offers a wide range of water sports and the largest high ropes course within the U.K.

THE LOCATION
Tees Barrage International White-Water Centre is Teesside’s award-winning home of adventure. This magnificent centre of activity can be found on the banks of the River Tees between Stockton and Middlesbrough and offers a unique variety of water sports for the whole family from Stand Up Paddleboarding to White Water RaftingBell BoatingPaddlesportsPowerboat Trips and so much more.

Tees Barrage is also home to NorthShore Water Sports, the ultimate kayaking and canoeing store as well as Air Trail, the UK’s biggest high ropes adventure course.

THE ROLE
Whilst working in this varied role interacting and motivating our customers to build their confidence and skills you will also work towards your Community Activator Coach Level 2 qualification over the course of 15 months.
The role involves:

  • Assisting in providing site specific training for activities not regulated by a National Governing Body.
  • Assisting in carrying out sessions as directed by the Duty Manager.
  • Assisting in the delivery of a safe, professional and high-quality training/coaching/recreational water-based experience both at Tees Barrage White Water Course and Air Trail.
  • Support the day -to -day general duties, security and safety of the centre and site as directed.
  • Assisting the Duty Manager with the organisation and co-ordinating of offsite trips.
  • Undertaking some administrative work relating to the centre and its activities.

ABOUT YOU
If you are already enthusiastic about the outdoors ideally with experience of outdoor activities, have good communication skills, able to swim, confident a working at heights and interested in a career in the outdoors working with varied range of customers of different ages and abilities, then this could be for you. No prior coaching experience is required, but a willingness to learn, develop and challenge yourself is essential.

You will gain valuable experience working alongside our experienced outdoor staff team. We’ll ensure you receive National Governing Body Award training including British Canoeing Personal Paddling awards, British Canoeing/International Raft Federation Raft Guide Qualification, Air Trail Operator Assessment and White-Water Safety and Rescue, a First Aid qualification along with guidance to improve your skills.  At the end of the apprenticeship programme, you will have gained valuable experience of a wide range of outdoor activities and will be ready to move on to the next stage in your career.

Missed out on getting your Maths and English GCSE’s?  Don’t worry – you can still apply but you will need to complete Functional Skills Level 2 before you finish the apprenticeship.  Our Learning Coaches can support you with this so don’t let this put you off!!

You will also be required to have an enhanced DBS check.
