Who can bowl?

Bowls is a game for all ages and a warm welcome awaits you at our Indoor Bowls clubs. New members of all ages can join the club with all levels of bowls catered for.
Non - Members
The club welcomes non member bowlers if signed in with a Thornaby Bowls member or accredited coach. Casual bowls can be played most afternoons on the green when there is a general Roll Up Session, however this must be booked in advance through reception. Casual users pay a higher fee and cannot play in any of the league sections.
Potential new members are encouraged to come along during the Roll Up Sessions to have a go and receive the coaching they need to get started. The club has a small supply of bowls and shoes, which can be used at no extra charge when sampling the game.
Disabled Users
The rink is fully equipped for disabled bowlers with the sides of the rink dropping down to provide access to the green. Two wheelchairs are also available for disabled bowlers to use on the Green.
Thornaby Bowling club is located on the first floor of the Pavilion, access is provided by a newly enstalled lift and an outside ramp.
Families
The green is available to members on a recreational basis to bowl in family groups, bookings can be made by contacting the reception desk on 01642 763371. As members there is also an opportunity for parents to bowl together in mixed teams during inter club competitions and for children aged six and above to bowl with the junior section.
Juniors
Increasingly younger people are being attracted to the sport where their abilities assist them to do well in the competitive environment.Juniors aged 6-18 years can play in the well-established and successful junior section. There are two sessions dedicated to juniors on a Thursday between 4.30pm-6.30pm and a Saturday morning between 9.00am-10.00am. These sessions offer juniors the chance to play competitive bowls and learn the correct techniques and principles of playing.
The juniors play in the Yorkshire County under 18’s league, Under 18’s Challenge Trophy, Under 18’s County Singles, Under 25’s County Singles and Inter club competitions.
Ladies
The club enjoys a full and comprehensive programme of fixtures for ladies. These include friendly matches, leagues, local tournaments and inter club competitions. Ladies can also play in mixed teams (ladies and men) in the mixed tournaments and leagues.
Men
The club enjoys a full and comprehensive programme of fixtures for men. These include friendly matches, leagues, local tournaments and inter club competitions. Men can also play in mixed teams (men and ladies) in the mixed tournaments and leagues.
Leagues
If you want to play in a league you must be a member of Thornaby Indoor Bowls Club.
