Tees Active Sports Academy
Talented young local athletes are been given a helping hand in their quest to realise their sporting talent An exciting initiative introduced by Tees Active Ltd has seen the formation of the Tees Active Sports Academy. The Academy offers access to training facilities within the Active Life Centres, sports science and sports therapy support.
Currently 49 athletes have been inducted into the Academy and have been selected from sports such as Biathlon, Athletics, Netball, Swimming, Lifesaving, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Badminton, Rugby, Kayaking and Olympic Wrestling
Tees Actives Managing Director Steve Chaytor , said, “The launch of the Academy will help aspiring and talented performers across all sports and will help them to develop in their own area”
Academy Manager, Allan McDermott added “Developing sporting excellence is a long term process, the Academy is Tees Actives long term commitment to developing local sporting talent”
The Academy will offer its members:
• Free access to sporting facilities
• Sports Science Support
• Sports Injury Back Up
• Nutritional Advice

To gain support from the Academy, individuals will have to meet the following criteria:
- Currently train at one of our leisure centres or live within Stockton Borough Councils boundaries
- Will be under the age of 22(Upper age limit extended to the age of 35 in the case of disabled athletes)
- The criteria for level of performance needed for each individual sport will be determined after consultation with appropriate agencies
The Academy’s primary focus will be to support the athlete, but will endeavour to assist in the development of coaches and officials by hosting seminars. workshops and courses
